Annual Registration and Wait List/Roster Update
2014 “Blue Cards” and Program/Tuition Schedules are being distributed to each family. Please return your completed blue card and tuition schedule, along with your annual registration fee payment of $150 by December 15th. Tuition will increase an average of 3.5% beginning in January, your family’s tuition, based on your program and schedule is indicated on the inside left side of the new tuition schedule. Please let me hear from you with any questions.
Little Friends is fully enrolled and accepting enrollment in a wait-list status only throughout our program. At this writing, we expect that we will be able to offer placements to some of the families waiting in the late summer. However, we do offer enrollment as space becomes available, so if that occurs, we offer these placements in order based on age/classroom and in order by eligible families. Currently enrolled families always have “Sibling Priority”, meaning that space is offered first to currently enrolled families seeking space for a sibling. If you are anticipating a change in your current schedule or program, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make appropriate roster adjustments (and if the change is that you plan to leave us then we have to devote time to trying to talk you out of that since we are quite fond of all of our LF’s and want them to stay with us through college.)
Please remember that except for a handful of changes (that were discussed in prior letters specifically about the year’s transition plans); the children will remain in their classrooms until the summer transitions begin. Curriculum that is developmentally appropriate will be provided in each classroom as the children’s developmental needs change through the months. There will also be specific changes in our Infant C and in our Terrific Two’s Classrooms to accommodate the children’s changing needs:
The Infant C Classroom will switch over to a Young Toddlers Class in January and will go back to being an Infant Class once our Pre-K students head off to Kindergarten and we make school wide roster changes. We will store the cribs; introduce cots and toddler furniture, toys and equipment. The children will go outside twice a day and will follow the Toddler Classroom routine. A detailed description of these changes will be sent to the families involved in the next few weeks.
The Terrific Two’s Classroom will introduce regular potty teaching for the children who are showing signs of readiness if the family is ready too so that the effort is consistent and supportive. Again, this will be addressed with individual families involved.
HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS IN OUR CLASSROOMS
At Little Friends, we take an anti-biased approach to family holiday celebrations. We would like to include elements of all holidays that are celebrated by the children represented in each classroom. In our younger classrooms, visual cues, special foods and music can bring the family celebrations in to school and for our older children, we will talk about the significance of the holiday and invite them the share their family traditions.
Even very young children can appreciate and begin to develop understanding and tolerance for different cultures, traditions and beliefs. By celebrating together as a classroom community, we are supporting children’s pro-social skills, multi-cultural awareness and promoting sensitivity.
We hope that you will share your family’s traditions and celebrations with us. If you have any concerns or questions about your classroom’s activities and/or plans, of course we want to hear from you.
Please change cubby clothes to weather appropriate/size selections.
Please LABEL everything – even mittens and hats. So many friends have the same coats, hats, gloves…
If your child is going to be out for vacation/days off or unexpectedly, please call or e-mail to let us know they will be absent.
PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY IN THE PARKING LOT/GARAGE. OUR LITTLE FRIENDS ARE NOT YET FULLY CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING THE DANGERS OF RUNNING IN THE PARKING LOT. MANY PARENTS ARE WRANGLING TWO OR MORE CHILDREN OUT TO THEIR CARS AND THEY MAY HAVE A LITTLE-LEGGED STRAGGLER BEHIND THEM. PLEASE CONSIDER THE CHILDREN’S SAFETY. On the same note, if you would like assistance to or from your car, please do not hesitate to ask, one of us will be more than happy to help.
For children who are here at LF later in the day, we offer a “late snack” to help prevent the “hungry-angries” that sometimes occur in young children who are typically better at grazing, than eating meals. Our hyper-metabolic little friends are burning through their calories so fast that they sometimes don’t even realize that they are hungry. This later snack is usually something like cheese and fruit, hummus and crackers or banana slices. If your child has dinner at school, then that is offered instead, of course. Usually children will feel more comfortable if they have a little something to hold them over before dinner.
CHANGES TO OUR SCHEDULE
We do not follow the public school plan for weather related closings. However, in an emergency situation, such as downed power lines/ power outages, or if the weather has resulted in a state of emergency, making it unsafe for travel, we will announce changes to our schedule in the following ways:

I saved the most important thing I have to say for last
I want to take a moment to Thank our amazing Teaching Family for all that they do every single day. Their imagination, humor, patience and true dedication to our Little Friends are nothing short of wonderful. I know you all have to go to work, but I wish you could experience a whole day here; your heart would fill right up and your smile would last for weeks. The singing and dancing, the painting and coloring, the paper-maicheing, beading, the hand-prints and belly prints, the clean-ups and melt-downs, the stories read in character’s voices, the puppets and finger plays, the games of tag and endless trips around the playground in the cozy coupes, the playdough rolling and muffin making, the block towers built, chipmunks investigated, gardens planted and the earth explored, the naptime back-rubs, cuddles and answers to the most important questions… What these Teachers are contributing to the rest of these children’s lives is akin to the foundation under a house. It is no small thing. We are very lucky and very grateful that they found their way to Little Friends and we are especially happy that they are helping us with our family business as we consider them our family. I’ll just go ahead and give extra credit too, because I am sure it is no cake-walk working for me ;). So… LF TEACHERS – YOU ARE INCREDIBLE and we <3 you!
