Letter from Verna

Dear Families,

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. While you are here, we thought we’d tell you a little bit about how we came to be and what we are all about.

In 2006, following 20+ years in the field of early childhood education, a career long dream was realized when I, together with my daughters Chelsea, Brittany opened Little Friends. This wonderful school has been a source of happiness, achievement, challenge and especially love since the very first day. We and our 30 wonderful Teachers and 147 little friends are the extended members of our LF family.

Our mission was to create the best possible environment for young children that we could by having these things guide our practice and decision making:

  • Children must be respected as individuals, each with their own gifts and needs

  • Yes! Is our default word. Yes! We can find out more about garbage trucks; Yes! We can fill our sensory bins with mud. Yes! We will see what happens if we plant popcorn. (you get the idea)

  • Children learn by doing. Children learn best and the most when they are immersed in a hands-on, multi-sensory experience and this is best achieved through play, otherwise known as the work of children

  • The first five years are the most incredible time in a human being’s life! 90% of brain development, language, motor skills, social skills, social emotional development, literacy, and the whole pre-academic foundation are formed in these precious years. What children learn and discover in their years with us will remain with them for a lifetime. That’s a big job and we must do our best work always.

We pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our children of course, but with your whole family too. Children feel most secure when their grown-ups collaborate and share the intention for their best experience, and we want to know how we can best serve each child and family. I am available to families at any time. Parents can check in by phone, by email or in person and if it is easier to touch base after hours, they should not hesitate to contact me on my mobile. No question or concern should wait. There is no such thing as “business hours” where young children are concerned.

We are very proud of our school and will be happy help you learn more if you would like to schedule a call or visit. Again, thank you for visiting our website and we hope to have the opportunity to meet your family.

Sincerely,

Miss Verna
