Letter from Verna

Dear Families,
Thank you for taking the time to visit Little Friends. On behalf of our family, I would like to tell you a little story about how Little Friends came to be:

Many years ago, when I was a student myself, I took a part time job as a Teacher’s Assistant in a Two Year Old Class to help pay for school expenses. I fell in love with the world of young children and abandoned my (parents’) dreams of becoming an attorney to build a career in Early Childhood Education instead. That was 25+ years ago. After all of those years working in the childcare/early childhood “business”, it was time to take a big leap!

Little Friends was born in 2006 after my daughters finished college and I somehow convinced them that we should open the very best child care program in the land (well, that’s what we strive for every day).  So here we are, a year round child care and preschool for children 6 weeks through 5 years old that is family owned and operated.

And… we really are a family. My daughters, Chelsea, Brittany and our 30 wonderful Teachers are the grown-ups who make up the Little Friends Family. We, together with our Little Friends spend our days singing, dancing, painting, reading, writing, creating, exploring, investigating, and running, jumping, cooking, building and discovering.  We can’t believe our good luck! This is the hardest work with the best reward one can imagine and we take our responsibility and privilege very seriously.

Even though you will mostly see us laughing, playing and generally just having a good old time; I can assure you that the children are learning an incredible amount and growing so much. The first five years of life are a truly magical time – did you know that 90% of a child’s brain develops in the first five years of life? And that children have a 25% greater ability to learn in a stimulating environment? We have a big job to do and that’s why we are so proud to have this opportunity.

At Little Friends, we believe:

  • The children’s best experience must be at the center of everything we do.

  • Communication has to be seamless for the benefit of everyone concerned.

  • Children feel safest and happiest when the grown ups in their lives work together on their behalf.

We invite you to visit us anytime. We’ll be happy to take you on a tour of our school so you can see if Little Friends is the right fit for your family.

Again, thank you and we look forward to meeting you.
